Man in critical condition after head-on crash in Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida Highway Patrol says that a Quitman man is in critical condition after a crash involving a semi and two cars.

FHP says the crash happened in Madison County on Thursday around 4:22 p.m.

The first car, a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Kendrick Jermaine Stokes, was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 90 while a semi was traveling eastbound in front of another car.

Sometime while driving, Stokes crossed the center-line of U.S. Highway 90 and traveled into the eastbound lane, hitting the semi's trailer and trailer tires.

FHP says the impact caused Stokes' car to spin counterclockwise.

The semi traveled southeast onto the south shoulder of the highway, coming to a stop.

However, car behind it collided head on with the front of Stokes's car, causing his car to keep rotating counterclockwise.

The car that hit him spun around counterclockwise and traveled southeast across the center-line and onto the north shoulder of the roadway, hitting several small trees and bushes.

Troopers say Stokes' car eventually stopped on U.S. Highway 90 blocking the eastbound travel lane.

Stokes is in critical condition at South Georgia Medical. The driver of the second car and their passenger sustained minor injuries and were taken to Madison Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the semi was uninjured.

Stokes is facing failure to maintain a lane charge.
