DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Deputies say a wanted man attempted to hide in an attic to avoid being arrested in Decatur County.

Derrick Jenkins was arrested by the Decatur County Sheriff's Office on Friday.

On May 22, deputies saw Jenkins at a gas station and tried to arrest him for violation of probation, but deputies only managed to put one handcuff on Jenkins before he ran, losing both of his shoes, shirt, a pack of cigarettes, and some marijuana in the process.

Deputies knew that Jenkins is frequently in the Libby Street area.

Friday, deputies saw Jenkins entering a home in that area. They knocked on the door and when someone answered, they asked about Jenkins.

The individual looked over their shoulder into the hallway and when deputies entered the home, they realized Jenkins was hiding in the attic.

Deputies say Jenkins was uncooperative to start, but when he found out deputies had their K9 on scene, he quickly surrendered and came down from the attic.

Jenkins is being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of fleeing from a scene, and one count of obstruction of an officer.

The individual who answered the door was also taken into custody on unrelated warrants.
