MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — A man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after he was convicted of severely injuring his infant daughter by shaking her.
Media outlets report a jury found 27-year-old Matthew Nutt guilty Tuesday of one count of cruelty to children in the first degree and three counts of simple battery for inflicting blunt force to the child's head in 2011.
Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds says Nutt claimed the girl dropped from his arm while he was vacuuming and hit her head, and that he shook her "just a little" to wake her up.
Reynolds says Nutt later admitted to shaking her because she was crying.
Prosecutor Lindsay Gardner says the incident was no accident. Reynolds says the now-4-year-old girl still has trouble walking and can't talk.
