JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for fatally stabbing another man in a dispute over a dog.

The Florida Times-Union reports that a Duval County judge sentenced 34-year-old Tyehimba Yazid Fort on Friday. He pleaded guilty in August to second-degree murder.

Officers found 26-year-old Joseph Micah Premo suffering from multiple stab wound at the Avesta Baymeadows apartments in September 2013. He later died at a hospital.

Police said Fort had owned a pit bull that he gave to Premo, who gave the dog to another person. The two men got into a fight over the dog, and it ended with the stabbing.
