Man Gets 45 Years for Killing Wife's Boyfriend

Posted

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - A disabled Florida Panhandle man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for fatally shooting his estranged wife's boyfriend and wounding her.

A Bay County judge sentenced 44-year-old Michael Joe McCoy on Friday. He was convicted last month of manslaughter and aggravated battery. He had faced charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder.

Authorities say McCoy and his wife, 37-year-old Susan McCoy, had decided to end their marriage in January but continued living together. The Panama City News Herald (http://goo.gl/o82B33) reports that came to an end in February when Michael McCoy shot his wife and her new boyfriend, 46-year-old David Walker, outside their Fountain home.

McCoy testified that he shot Walker in self-defense and that his wife was hit by accident. But Susan McCoy testified that her husband was in a jealous rage when he deliberately aimed and fired at her and Walker.
