CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (KRIS/CNN) – Police had to rescue a contractor who got stuck inside an ATM room and slipped notes to customers through the machine, hoping they would help him.
A contractor went to a closed Bank of America Wednesday to fix the door lock on the room connected to the ATM. But he wound up locked inside.
"He can't get out. He can't call anybody because his phone is in his truck,” said Officer Richard Olden with Corpus Christi Police.
Since people were stopping by to get cash from the ATM, the contractor began slipping them notes through the receipt slot.
“Please help. I’m stuck in here, and I don’t have my phone. Please call my boss,” one note read.
Olden says some people thought it was a joke, but someone took it seriously and called police.
At first, Olden says the officers thought it was a joke too, but they quickly learned the truth.
"Sure enough, we can hear a little voice coming from the machine,” Olden said.
The contractor was stuck in the room for about two hours before his boss arrived, and police had to kick down a door to get the man out of the ATM room.
"You'll never see this again in your life that somebody’s stuck in the ATM machine. It was just crazy,” Olden said.
