JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A man convicted of shooting and wounding a Jacksonville patrol officer has been sentenced to life in prison.
A Duval County judge sentenced 34-year-old Donald Lee Goins on Tuesday. The Florida Times-Union (http://goo.gl/QZbzYb) reports that he was convicted in August of attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, possession of cocaine and several other charges.
Authorities say Goins shot Officer John Andrew Benson in the shoulder during an April 2014 traffic stop. The officer reportedly pulled Goins over for not wearing a seat belt. Goins drove off but was arrested a short time later following a manhunt.
