WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Wakulla County man has been arrested after police say he stole prescription pills from an elderly couple's home.
The Wakulla County Sheriff's Offices says that David Harrell was arrested on Thursday.
They say that on May 27, they got a call from an elderly Wakulla County resident about prescription medications disappearing from his home.
The 80-year-old man told them that he had noticed that various types of his prescriptions, primarily opiates, were missing from his home when he left to go into town.
With his permission, deputies then set up surveillance equipment around his house.
On March 27 and again on June 14, WCSO says that they were able to photo evidence of Harrell going into the victim's home while he was gone and stealing opiates.
Deputies say that both times, the victim's 63-year-old bedridden wife was laying on a bed in the living room, unaware as Harrell burglarized their home just 20 feet away from her.
They said that Harrell had known about the medications in the home because he serviced their water treatment system.
Detectives also said that Harrell had also sold some of the stolen opiates to another person.
Harrell is charged with 39 counts of the following charges: burglary of an occupied dwelling, grand theft of prescription medication, and possession of a schedule II narcotic.
