SIESTA KEY, Fla. (WTXL) - Authorities in Siesta Key are investigating the discovery of a massive python found floating belly up off of a resident's dock.
Joe Volpe got a call from his neighbor about the 13-foot snake.
Volpe used a pole to lift the 80 pound snake onto dry ground, and realized just how big it really was.
Wildlife officials say the python was likely in the water trying to warm up during these cold temperatures.
Florida Fish and Wildlife has launched a criminal investigation.
Officials say it was likely an escaped or released pet.
