LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is shot and killed, after police say he tried to protect his girlfriend from getting shot by her ex-husband.

It happened just before 2am this morning on Woodville Highway. Tallahassee Police say a man confronted his ex-wife and her new boyfriend with a gun, after the two came home from a night out.

The boyfriend, Moise Joseph, stepped between his girlfriend and her ex-husband, telling her to run. Joseph and the man fought over the gun, and that's when he was shot several times. Joseph died at the scene.

As for the ex-husband, Sheldon Rogers was found in the area not too long after police arrived. Officers arrested him, based on the description given by a 9-1-1 caller.

The 34-year-old is charged with premeditated murder and domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators are still talking to witness and they're asking if you have any information to call TPD at (850) 891-4200.
