TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The Department of Corrections confirms Clarence Jones died last Tuesday of natural causes. Jones was sentenced to death for the murder of Tallahassee Police Officer Ernest Ponce De Leon.
Ponce De Leon was shot to death in 1988 and was the first TPD Officer murdered in the line of duty.
Jones was being housed at the Union Correctional Institute. The 60-year-old had been on death row for 26-years.
The Inspector General and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating.
