WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A local man has been charged with first degree murder after shooting another man during a high school celebration in a wooded area in Wakulla County.

Riley Attridge, 20, was arrested by the Wakulla County Sheriff's on Saturday.

WCSO says during the early morning hours of Saturday, a 911 call was made reporting a shooting in the wooded area at St. Marks Rise Road in Wakulla County, near the Leon County line, resulting in 22-year-old Preston Pitman being shot.

Leon County Sheriff's Office received the 911 call, dispatched deputies to the scene, and notified WCSO.

WCSO says the investigation revealed that during Friday night and the early morning hours of Saturday, dozens of people were participating in a social gathering in the woods to celebrate high school graduation.

During the social gathering, deputies say Attridge shot multiple rounds at Pitman with a handgun and Pittman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A tragic event that occurred last night. During the night of what should of been a celebration. Our hearts go out to that young man's family," said Chris Savory, Wakulla County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer. "We know him personally and it's just a terrible, terrible, terrible event that happened."

After interviewing multiple people at the scene who witnessed the events leading up to the shooting, the shooting itself, and the events that transpired immediately following the shooting, Attridge is being charged with first-degree murder.

He was transported to the Wakulla County Jail.

WCSO says the investigation of this incident is on-going and no additional details regarding this investigation are being released at this time.
