JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A 20-year-old man has been arrested for driving under the influence of drugs after officers found him slumped over in the driver's seat of a car and resuscitated him with Narcan.
The Marianna Police Department says they responded to a disturbance involving an intoxicated man at a home on Borden Street on Thursday afternoon.
When officers arrived, they found 20-year-old Brett Crumpler sitting in a car, slumped over the steering wheel and could not be woken up.
Witnesses reported that Crumpler had been ingesting prescription narcotics.
Officers feared that he may have been overdosing on opioids, so they administered a dose of NARCAN to Crumpler. After a few minutes, he became conscious.
Due to his narcotic intoxicated state, Crumpler was arrested for driving under the influence of narcotics.
When they searched the car, they found several Xanax and Adderall pills and noted that Crumpler didn't have a prescription for either one. Additionally, a small amount of meth was located along with a meth smoking pipe.
After receiving medical treatment at Jackson Hospital, Crumpler was transported to the Jackson County Correction Facility to await first appearance.
"Due to the nationwide influx of opioid related deaths, all Officers with the Marianna Police Department have received training in administering NARCAN in an effort to save lives," police wrote. "This is the 3rd time in recent months that NARCAN has successfully been used by the Marianna Police Department to resuscitate a person suffering from an opioid overdose."
Chief Baggett urges the citizens of Marianna to report suspicious behavior and activities to the Marianna Police Department at 850-526-3125.
