Man Charged with DUI, Hitting Motorcycle Deputy

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Tampa man has been charged with driving under the influence a month after authorities say he crashed into a motorcycle deputy.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reports that 26-year-old Kenneth Cooper III was arrested Tuesday and charged with DUI with serious bodily injury, 12 counts of DUI with injury and property damage and two probation violations.

Authorities say Cooper was driving a flatbed truck the afternoon of Dec. 22 when he hit the motorcycle deputy, who had been stopped at a traffic light. The deputy was dragged about 150 feet, while authorities say Cooper hit several additional vehicles.

Officials say blood drawn at the scene indicated Cooper was under the influence of a chemical substance.

Cooper was being held Wednesday without bail set. Jail records didn't list an attorney
