TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--Eight months after a hit-and-run accident in Leon County that killed a pedestrian, the driver of a tractor-trailer is now facing a vehicular homicide charge.
Twenty-six-year-old Earnest Lee "Showtime" Thomas pulled over to put gas in his SUV on I-10 near the Capital Circle exit on September 15. Troopers say a good samaritan in a pick-up truck stopped to help Thomas. That's when the load hanging off the side of the tractor-trailer, driven by 55-year old Timothy Chancey, hit Thomas and the two vehicles. Thomas was killed.
According to court documents, Chancey told troopers he did not realize he had hit Thomas, which is why he left the scene of the crash.
He did admit that he had been drowsy all day. Thomas was a Tallahassee native and graduate of Godby High School.
