WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL)--New details are released in a Wakulla County crash where an SUV ends up hitting a tree after the driver tries to avoid an oncoming car.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a Monte Carlo was headed south on U.S. 319 in Wakulla County on Tuesday, when the driver tried to pass a vehicle but went into the path of a 4Runner headed north.

The driver of the 4Runner, Jordan David Bennett, steered to the right to avoid the car, but hit a tree.

Troopers say the driver of the Monte Carlo, Jeffery Lynn Hill Jr.,was charged with leaving the scene of the crash and improper passing when meeting an oncoming vehicle.

A total of five people were inside the SUV. Bennett and passenger Taryn Janelle Lu Tatum had minor injuries. Daniel Joseph Maples was seriously hurt. Two others were not hurt.

Troopers say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
