TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Lamont man has been arrested, accused in an October car crash that killed a man.

Azende Thompson, 20, was arrested on Wednesday for vehicular homicide.

They say the charges stem from a crash on October 14, 2017 where Thompson was driving and crashed into a large oak tree head on after failing to turn with a curve in the road.

Emergency responders were called to the scene on Old St. Augustine Road and provided medical attention to 20-year-old Tyrone Ivey Jr.

Ivey later died from his injuries.

One other passenger suffered broken bones in the crash, but lived. When interviewed, the passenger admitted that all three had been smoking marijuana prior to the crash.

A blood test confirmed that Thompson was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash.

Further investigation determined that the car had been going over 80 miles per hour before colliding with a tree. The speed limit on Old St. Augustine Road is 40 mph.

Thompson is in the Leon County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.
