Man Arrested with 36 Fake Credit Cards in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WTXL) -- Deputies arrested a man who they say had 36 stolen credit/debit cards.

On Thursday, October 1 around 5:30 in the afternoon, a deputy assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement team clocked a car traveling south on I-75 at 90 miles per hour. The deputy caught up to the vehicle which had exited the interstate and a traffic stop was performed on Madison Highway near Hart Road.

While speaking with the driver, Yariel LaRosa the deputies noticed him becoming increasingly nervous. The deputies sought LaRosa’s permission to conduct a search of the vehicle interior which he granted. During the search, the deputies located 36 debit/credit cards embossed with names other than LaRosa’s. The deputies checked each of the cards and found the data encoded on each card was different from that embossed on the card face. Yariel LaRosa was placed under arrest and taken to the Lowndes County Jail.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office have communicated with the United States Secret Service and are working to identify each of the victims whose information has been stolen.

Yariel LaRosa has appeared in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court for an arraignment hearing but remains in the jail.

These deputies looked beyond the traffic stop and identified a much larger crime was being committed.
