Man Arrested in Valdosta for Burglary, Assault with Intent to Rape, and False Imprisonment

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Police have arrested a man in Valdosta after they said he broke into a family's home and began attacking the homeowner and their kids.

The Valdosta Police Department said that Willie Grant, 43, was arrested on Sunday. 

They were called to home in the 300 block of South Street around 3:10 a.m. Sunday morning. The resident who called them told them that someone had broken into her home and was attacking her family.

When they arrived, Grant had barricaded the front door in an attempt to prevent the occupants from leaving. Officers were finally able to get into the house through another door where Grant was immediately arrested.

Officers spoke with the occupants who described the incident.

The resident told police that Grant had started knocking on her door around 3 a.m. 

When she refused to open the door, Grant forced his way in and began demanding money. Once inside, he assaulted the residents, some of which were children, before they were able to contact police.

VPD said that the residents were all treated for superficial injuries by EMS.

Grant was transported to the Lowndes County Jail where he is facing a list of charges:

o burglary (felony)

o aggravated assault w/the intent to commit rape x 2 (felony)

o cruelty to a person age 65 or older (felony)

o 1st degree cruelty toward children (felony)

o false imprisonment x3 (felony)

o hindering persons making an emergency call (misdemeanor)
