TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A 19-year-old is being charged with attempted homicide after two victims were shot during a drug-related home invasion robbery in Tallahassee earlier this month.
Keondrez Woods, 19, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, attempted second degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
According to complaint documents, Woods and two other men forced their way into an apartment at Gibbs Mabry Village on June 12.
A victim told police that one of the men was armed and demanded money from her specifically, forcing her to remove her clothing as they beat her and searched her for money and drugs.
Somehow the victim was able to escape and ran from the apartment. While running, the armed suspect shot at her multiple times.
Eventually, someone let the victim into their apartment, shutting the suspects out. That's when the armed suspect shot into the apartment, hitting two people inside.
Documents say that several residents witnessed the shooting and told police a silver Cadillac had been parked by the complex's exit during the incident. Police processed the scene, finding .22 long rifle ammunition casings at the scene.
Three days later, documents say there was a rash of armed robberies. Between June 15 and June 16, there were six armed robberies and one attempted home invasion robbery by a group of male suspects.
In each incident, the description of the suspects was consistent, leading investigators to believe that the same suspects were involved each time.
In at least two of the armed robberies, one suspect was armed with an AR-15 style rifle, similar to the gun used during the home invasion robbery. A Cadillac, like the one seen during the home invasion robbery, was also involved in five of the seven robberies.
On June 20, following another armed robbery, authorities began surveying the Cadillac, as they had built up evidence that the men inside were responsible for the string of armed robberies.
That night, the Texaco Gas Station at 5899 West Tennessee Street was robbed by two armed suspects. Immediately after the robbery, deputies and police responded and found the Cadillac they had been tracking on Orange Avenue.
They stopped the car and searched it, finding a handgun, masks and money in plain sight. Woods wasn't in the car, but two other men were. Documents say they were arrested for armed robbery.
Police later interviewed another man they believed to be connected to the car and he identified Woods as the man with the AR-15 during the home invasion robbery.
Based on the evidence, a warrant was issued for Woods arrest. He was arrested on June 22 and remains in jail as of Tuesday on a $110,000 bond.
The incident, as well as the string of robberies, are still under investigation.
