MARIANNA, Fla. (WTXL) - A man is in custody for stealing a $6,400 trailer from a Marianna home.
The Marianna Police Department reports John Christopher Johnston, 38, from Jay, Fla. has been charged for a trailer theft on Nov. 27.
The department says they received a report of a trailer theft on Decatur Street on Nov. 27. The victim reported that their new heavy duty utility trailer, valued at $6,400, was stolen from the driveway of a home on Decatur Street.
The next day, the trailer was found on Paradise Club Road in the Dellwood community. On Nov. 29, police obtained video that showed a white Dodge truck that had the stolen trailer in tow.
After sharing information and photos of the truck with the public, police say they got a call on Sunday from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office about a traffic stop on the truck suspected in the crime.
When a police officer reached the traffic stop that was just outside of Marianna on Highway 90, the officer spoke with the driver, Johnston, who admitted to taking the trailer form Decatur Street.
Based on the investigation, Johnston was arrested for grand theft and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility where he will await first appearance.
