TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is facing charges for attempted homicide in connection to a shooting on Eddie Road.
The Tallahassee Police Department says that Maurice Thompson was arrested on Friday.
Officers were called to a local hospital around 10:30 p.m. on June 24 for a reported shooting. Police say the victim, 43-year-old Willie Wilson, drove himself to the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen.
According to a probable cause document, Wilson told police that a few weeks ago, his step-son and Thompson got into a fight. His step-son told him that Thompson had jumped him.
Wilson responded, saying that he would "handle it" if he saw Thompson.
On June 24, Wilson told police that he saw Thompson outside of his cousin's home on Eddie Road, but didn't say anything to him and walked into the house.
Thompson followed him into the home, according to court documents, and asked, "I heard you were looking for me?" Wilson responded, saying that he didn't want a fight and that he would talk to Thompson later.
Wilson told police that Thompson came at him aggressively, leading him to punch him. A brawl began, Thompson soon pulling a gun during the fight to shoot Wilson in the stomach.
After shooting him, Wilson said that Thompson hit him in the head with the gun several times.
Court documents say that when Wilson stumbled away from Thompson, Thompson followed him and fired at least five additional shots wildly into the home.
Thompson was charged with attempted homicide. It is not being counted as a felony as the crime was not premeditated.
Thompson is in jail on a $20,000.
