LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A man has been arrested after he hit and killed a motorcyclist and tried run from the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol said that around 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, 21-year-old Brandon Peterson was driving his Ford Pickup north on U.S. 27 behind Gordon Wimberley, 45, who was riding a motorcycle.
They said that Wimberley had started slowing down to get ready for a left turn, but Peterson didn't and hit the back of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle overturned and Wimberley was thrown from the bike.
Troopers said that Peterson tried to leave the crash but was found about a half a mile north from the scene.
Wimberley was pronounced dead on the scene.
Peterson was arrested and taken to Lafayette County Jail. So far, troopers are charging him with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, but said that other charges are pending investigation.
