TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is behind bars after police say he assaulted a woman and threatened to kill her in front of her child.

According to court documents, on Dec. 2 a victim called police to report her ex-boyfriend had pointed a gun at her.

When police arrived on scene they spoke with the victim. Police say the victim explained she was at the witness home picking up her son, when 29-year-old Jonathan Sampson confronted her.

Documents say the victim told police Sampson approached her and told the child not to let anyone spend his money.

Sampson continued to make comments, but the victim said she ignored him and placed her son inside of her car.

While she was getting in the car, she told police Sampson began pulling on her car door while holding a gun. The victim says he then pointed the gun at her and threatened to kill her.

As the victim began to call 911, Sampson threatened her again saying he would kill her if she called police.

Documents say seeing the victim stay on the phone caused Sampson to run away before police arrived.

Police say the victim said a similar incident like this one has happened in the past involving her and Sampson.

According to court documents, police issued an arrest warrant on Dec. 5 for Sampson on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Sampson is currently being held on a $5,500 bond at the Leon County Detention Facility.
