Man Arrested After Shooting Valdosta Woman

VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - A Valdosta woman was shot Saturday evening as she was leaving an apartment complex.

Valdosta Police say that around 6:45pm, they responded to the KFC on 1207 North Ashley Street in reference to a woman coming in and saying that she had been shot.

The woman, 28-year-old Whitney Myers told police that she was driving out of Ora Lee West Housing Complex when a man shot at her car, hitting her left arm. According to police, Myers says that her car had stalled at the intersection of East Ann Street and North Lee Street, and she ran to the KFC.

Officers say that EMS arrived and brought Myers to the ER, and they began searching the area for the suspect that matched Myers' description: a white male wearing a dark blue shirt. 

According to police, a man was found near the intersection of North Troup Street and East Brookwood Drive who matched the description, and he was identified as 20-year-old Steven Jolly. 

After searching Jolly, officers found a handgun, and they say that they brought Jolly in for questioning. 

According to police, the investigation showed that Jolly had been walking through the Ora Lee West Complex discharging the firearm and one of the rounds struck Myers.

Jolly was brought to the Lowndes County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
