SUWANNEE Co., FL (WTXL) - Deputies have arrested a man for the murder of a women whose body was found near the Suwannee River in April.
According to the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office, Ronney Smith was arrested on Friday for the murder of Lashena Ball.
Suwannee County deputies found Ball's body in a wooded area off County Road 349 in the Little River wildlife management area in April.
Court documents say she was stabbed more than a dozen times and was found tied up.
Smith was arrested after his DNA was collected to Ball. The registered sex offender lives less than 5 miles away from where her body was discovered.
A man driving through the area called 911 after spotting the body at the end of a road near the Suwannee River, according to deputies.
