LIBERTY COUNTY, TX (KTRK/CNN) – A biker in Texas could face child endangerment charges for riding a motorcycle with a little boy onboard.
Police arrested Anthony Welsh Tuesday on an outstanding traffic warrant after a picture of the man riding a motorcycle with a toddler caused outrage on social media.
The photo was taken by a man who did not want to be identified. He says he and his wife were at a gas station Sunday when they saw Welsh straddling a high-performance motorcycle with a toddler onboard.
The man snapped the picture before Welsh drove off then posted it on social media.
"I'm not looking to necessarily get the guy thrown in jail, but he needs to get the hint the child's life is in danger,” he said.
Deputies are now talking to possible eyewitnesses to the incident, for which Welsh could face charges such as endangering a child, according to Captain Ken DeFoor with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
It’s illegal in Texas for a child younger than five to be a passenger on a motorcycle.
"It's just a very ill-thought-out decision for an adult to make to put a child in that kind of a position. If the motorcycle went down, the child is a goner,” DeFoor said.
Welsh has a criminal history that includes assault and evading arrest. Attempts to contact him before his arrest were unsuccessful.
