JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies have released the names of the people involved in a shooting that left one man dead and a woman critically injured.

Deputies said that on Tuesday around 1:30 p.m., they received a call about a shooting in the 2600 block of Highway 2, east of Campbellton.

The caller stated that her mother had been shot in the head, and that she was transporting her to a hospital. The caller also told deputies that she could still hear gunshots as she was leaving.

When deputies arrived, they found a dead man in the yard of the home with trauma to the head.

After interviewing witnesses, they were able to piece together that randomly during a family gathering, Luke Walker III pulled out a pistol and shot 55-year-old Annette Cotton point-blank in the head.

He then ran off into the woods, but shortly after returned to fire more shot at numerous people in the yard.

Several family members starting trying to stop him and tried to subdue him. At some point, several family members hit Walker with a blunt object, with one blow hitting him in the head, causing his death.

Cotton was taken to an Alabama hospital where deputies said that she is in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
