MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man accused of threatening the president has proclaimed his sanity in federal court, but two psychologists say he's delusional and thinks he's been chosen as a spokesman for God.
The testimony came Thursday in a competency hearing in federal court for Deryke Matthew Pfeiffer of Ozark. Pfeiffer spoke in court over the objections of his attorney and told the judge, "I am not crazy."
U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson says he will rule later on Pfeifer's competency and whether he should be committed to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons for a determination on whether he can be restored to competency.
Federal agents arrested Pfeiffer in July and accused him of making threats against the president in phone calls to the Federal Protective Service and in social media posts.
