TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A man is behind bars, accused of stabbing and killing his mother at a Tallahassee hospital.

According to the Leon County Sheriff's Office, 22-year-old Alexander Sparks went to the fourth floor of Capital Regional Medical Center around 10 p.m. Friday, stopping by a supply cabinet to put on gloves and a mask.

Deputies say Sparks then went into a hospital room and stabbed his mother, Liese Sparks, multiple times.

Deputies say nurses noticed her heart monitor beeping and came to the room as Alexander Sparks came out holding a knife. They say he put the knife down at a nurse's desk in the hallway. Lt. Grady Jordan tells WTXL he had brought the knife with him to the hospital.

Law enforcement met Sparks at the elevator and arrested him. He was taken to the Leon County Detention Facility and charged with homicide.
