TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Georgia man is facing aggravated assault charges in Tallahassee after being accused of pulling gun on a mother and her 7-year-old child.
Christopher Carter, 34, is facing multiple charges including two counts of aggravated assault.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim called police to her apartment on Allen Road on June 4. She told officers that she had been assaulted by Carter the day before.
The victim noted that she and Carter have a baby boy together and explained Carter was over at her house on June 3 to play with the baby while the victim supervised.
When he arrived, the victim was on the phone so Carter asked if she was on the phone with her boyfriend. Documents say the victim ignored the question, sparking an argument.
The victim said Carter told her she should not be dating when she had a small child to care for and began making threatening comments about harming her and her boyfriend.
She said Carter then pulled out a handgun with a laser aiming device and pointed at the victim and her 7-year-old child. The victim said Carter left her apartment when she threatened to call 911.
The victim told police that she waited to report the incident because she was scared Carter would retaliate.
When investigators spoke with the victim's child a few days later, the child confirmed Carter and the victim got into an argument before Carter pulled a gun "from his pants."
However, the child told investigators that Carter pointed the gun towards the floor and not directly at them. Court documents say the child was "scared" when Carter pulled the gun and still thinks about the incident.
When investigators spoke to Carter, he denied that he displayed a handgun and said no physical altercation happened during the argument.
Based on the investigation, Carter was charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
He was arrested by Tallahassee Police officers at his home in the 1200 block of Hidden Valley Place. When police searched him, they found a semi-automatic handgun in his waist band and a small baggie of marijuana.
As a result, Carter was additionally charged with carrying an unlicensed concealed firearm and possession of marijuana. As of Monday, Carter remains in Leon County Jail on a $13,500 bond.
