Man Accused of Killing Mom in Florida Panhandle

Posted

MARY ESTHER, Fla. (AP) — Deputies say a Florida Panhandle man confessed to using a handgun, bow and arrow and a knife to kill his mother.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputies arrested 42-year-old Michael Watkins on Sunday after responding to a criminal mischief call in Mary Esther, which is near Fort Walton Beach. A homeowner told deputies that a neighbor was in her yard, knocking over Christmas decorations and yelling.

The Northwest Florida Daily News (http://bit.ly/1FIRcCw ) reports deputies went to the house and saw a woman slouched over a couch with arrows in her head. Watkins came out of the house with a sheathed knife in his waistband. Deputies had to use a stun gun twice to subdue him.

Deputies say Watkins told them he had killed 65-year-old Gloria Watkins. An autopsy is scheduled.
