WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Thanks to a new construction project, one of Wakulla County's major roads will not only be expanding from two to four lanes, but the area will also be getting a new non-paved trail.
The Florida Department of Transportation says construction will begin on Crawfordville Highway (U.S. 319) on Tuesday, June 26.
Construction on Crawfordville Highway will start from north of S.R. 267 to the Leon County line in Wakulla County.
The project includes widening the existing road from two to four lanes, milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, signage and pavement markings, a new stormwater management facility, a non-paved trail off of C.J. Spears Road, and the installation of a water line and fire hydrants.
Officials says lane closures will be prohibited from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and during special events. Access to businesses and home will be maintained.
Motorists are reminded to pay attention and be careful when driving through the work zone. Construction is expected to be completed by winter 2020.
