BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Authorities in Maine are investigating what appeared to be a fetus that a woman was carrying in a bag as she walked in downtown Bangor.
Sgt. Paul Edwards says police confronted the woman Friday afternoon after getting a call that she had a fetus. He says what appeared to be a fetus was inside a sealed plastic container the woman was carrying in a grocery bag.
The state medical examiner is expected to examine the find Tuesday to determine whether it was indeed a fetus. Edwards says if it is, he hopes the examination will tell how old it is, whether it came from a miscarriage or an abortion, and who the mother is.
The woman was interviewed and released. No one was arrested, and no charges have been filed.
