MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that a woman is behind bars after a victim told police she stole his cellphone.
Deputies reported that on Monday morning, they were called to a home on Northeast Nixon Way about a stolen cellphone. When they arrived, the victim told them that Jessica Mauldin and another man came to his house for no specific reason.
He invited them inside, and soon left the room for a brief moment. When he returned, he found that Mauldin and the man were gone, along with his cellphone.
After talking with the victim, deputies searched for Mauldin, eventually finding her driving her car at the intersection of Country Kitchen Road and Kennedy Terrace. Police pulled them over and began questioning them both.
At some point, deputies saw a small blue plastic baggie on the car floor, one commonly used for illegal drugs. They had a K-9 sniff the outside of the car, and the dog indicated that there was an odor of illegal drugs coming from the car.
As they searched the car, they found drug paraphernalia to include a large number of small plastic baggies that matched the one seen on the floor of the car, a razor blade, digital scales with drug residue and a glass smoking pipe containing meth residue along with two hard plastic containers that each contained meth.
A handgun and bullets were also located behind the driver’s seat. A continued search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of the stolen cell phone.
Mauldin was placed under arrest without incident, and the cell phone was returned to the victim. She faces several charges related to the possession of the gun, drugs, and drug paraphernalia as well as theft.
