MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Madison County Central School did not go on lockdown due to a threat of an active shooter, the Sheriff's Office said.
But the school has opted to keep the front doors locked as an extra security measure since the Parkland tragedy, Madison County Major David Harper said.
In a Facebook post, Harper said Tuesday that apparently a social media post suggested the school had received a threat.
"This is false information," he wrote. "There is no active confirmable threat nor has there been a received credible threat to any Madison County School."
He said he believes the false information originated from a social media post by a juvenile in South Carolina.
"In response the Madison County Sheriff’s Office assigned multiple deputies and investigators to this matter," Harper wrote, "in effort to cease the sharing of this particular posting by any of our Madison County students to prevent undo panic."
