MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Madison deputies said that a man was arrested for having meth after he visited an inmate who was jailed for making meth.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that on Tuesday around 5 p.m., an investigator saw Benjamin Dietrich walk into the lobby of the Madison County Jail to visit an inmate who was in jail for making meth.
The investigator knew beforehand that Dietrich had a suspended driver's license and confirmed that the suspension was still active.
They said that Dietrich soon left the jail, got into a car, and drove out the parking lot. He was immediately stopped by the investigator and was told he was being stopped because of his license, to which Dietrich admitted he had no excuse.
The investigator asked him if the car had anything in it that was illegal. Dietrich gave a small metal container from his pants pocket and told the investigator that it contained meth.
Dietrich then told the investigator that the car had in it items that he used to make meth including a cook bottle that was not active.
When they searched the car, deputies found a glass jar that contained a large amount of meth oil that was in the active cooking phase and was smoking.
They also located several items commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine including coffee filters, a digital scale, a glass pipe, funnels, camp fuel, butane fuel, ammonium nitrate, pseudoephedrine, lithium, aluminum foil, rubber tubbing, syringes and plastic bags.
Dietrich admitted that all the illegal items belonged to him and claimed ownership and responsibility.
The active cook was made safe and was packaged for disposal. Total weight of the meth oil was 557 grams.
Dietrich was arrested and charged with trafficking, manufacturing and possessing of meth.
