TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – It was a day of celebration in Madison County on Sunday as the community honored the back to back football state champions.
There is no denying the love Madison County has for its Cowboys. The team is coming off a historic season in which the players went 13-1 and won the state championship game by more than 40 points.
Head football coach Mike Coe said Sunday was about sharing the success with the community, which cares deeply about Madison County High School sports.
"This is a special place and they come out," Coe said. "It doesn’t matter if it is football or cheerleading, band, basketball, baseball. If our kids are in it, this community is involved. The people here will support it."
Sunday morning started with players, coaches, family members and the community having a barbecue. In the afternoon there was a parade, and at night there was a party at the Madison County Mansion.
Madison City Manager Jerome Wyche said it's important to have these types of celebrations.
"One of the things we are making a good effort to do is we want to make sure we recognize citizens for all the good they do for not only the city but the county,” Wyche said.
The people who are probably the most proud of the Cowboys' success this year are the parents of the players.
"I can’t say enough about the coaches and the kids, because these kids, when they are there, those coaches treat them as if they are there own," said parent Annette Johnson. "So those kids have a sense of family even outside of family at home."
It is a day the Cowboys players and coaches will surely remember forever.
