MADISON COUNTY, FL (WTXL) - Madison County deputies are warning residents about a scam, involving Facebook.
This comes after several residents say they've had their accounts hacked and are later contacted by the hacker, who appears to be someone on their friends list.
Deputies say the hacker would then take over the account, telling friends they've won a large amount of money. The hacker then tells the victim if they want the money, he or she needs to pay upfront taxes or fees by a wire transfer.
So far, deputies say the winnings have claimed to come from an organization called Catalog of Federal Assistance Grant.
The sheriff's office says it's very uncommon to pay upfront fees for any winnings and to call them at (850) 973-4001 if you feel you've been targeted.
