SPARTA, Ga. (AP) — A $4 million biofuel plant is coming to a small city in central Georgia.
WMAZ-TV reports (on.wmaz.com/1SU3QIH) officials in Sparta announced Wednesday that Duckweed USA will be setting up shop at the city's wastewater plant. Mayor William Evans Jr. says the deal with biofuel maker should bring at least 250 jobs within the next five years.
The company takes duckweed from water and turns it into fuel to sell to refiners and farmers. Production in Sparta is expected to begin this summer.
Duckweed USA President Michael Rigolizzo says most jobs at the plant will require no more education than a high school diploma.
Sparta is a city of about 1,500 people that's located 54 miles northeast of Macon.
