VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Hundreds of thousands of dollars were found in Lowndes County Friday night.

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Department is now investigating where the $400,000 came from.

We're told the money was found in van in a duffle bag after a traffic stop.

"The driver first said he had sold a house in New York and then he said he was buying a business in Valdosta," said Sheriff Ashley Paulk.

Sheriff Paulk also said with his experience on drug cases, the way the money is packaged, and the lack of a band from a financial institution, they have opened an in depth investigation to find out the source of the cash.

The driver was taken to a home in Valdosta and currently is not facing any charges pending the outcome of the investigation.

If the money indeed came from an illegal source, they will file seizure papers on it.
