LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk has a few tips for you if you're interacting with people on social media that you don't know.

This comes after a Florida police officer was arrested for reportedly threatening a Lowndes County woman and her family after refusing to send him nude photos of herself.

Sheriff Paulk says to help prevent these kinds of situations keep your profiles and your personal information private, and make sure you know the person well that you're talking to.

"If you feel that it is truly a threat, you know, we want to know about it, we are going to investigate it," said Sheriff Paulk. "So, don't sit around and wait for something to happen, make us aware of it."

Again, be overly cautious when talking to someone new but if you ever receive threats from that person don't be afraid to contact authorities.
