LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WTXL) - Lowndes County officials said that all Red Cross and pet-friendly shelters are now full.
The Lowndes County Emergency Management said that after the number of people in the city increased nearly 10,000 in the last 24 hours, shelters have begun to fill up quickly.
Officials said that all shelters are full with the exception of Good Samaritan shelters located at:
-First Baptist Church, 200 W Central Avenue, Valdosta
-Lake Park United Methodist Church, 412 W Cotton Avenue, Lake Park
They also said that there are no more pet friendly shelters available in Lowndes County, however pets are welcome at a shelter in Enigma.
Officials said that resources have been made available to provide for horses or any other large animals, if needed.
According to emergency management, the influx of evacuees has finally tapered off. They said 911 officials have reported that as of now, they have experienced little to no impact related to Hurricane Matthew.
