VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) -- The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and the Valdosta Police Department went head-to-head in a friendly competition to raise money to support local charities.

Both agencies joined Sonny's BBQ in Valdosta Tuesday to donate 25 percent of their food purchases to a specific charity.

The sheriff's office picked the Children's Advocacy Center, while Valdosta police supported the "Blue Line Ladies."

The Children's Advocacy Center provides support services to local children who have been victims of abuse. The "Blue Line Ladies" help support the wives and families of law enforcement.

Both departments were at the newly remodeled Sonny's on Norman Drive.

Sheriff Ashley Paulk said it was a great way to support local groups, while being more present in the community.

"The money that's donated will go to a good cause. It's a lot of fun. I bought everybody at my office lunch today to help," Paulk said. "People that come in to eat get to meet some of our deputies. It's just a good thing, because law enforcement needs to be more involved in the community."
