LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Lowndes County investigators are currently searching for the person responsible for the death of a dog who was found dead in an abandoned cage a little over 72 hours ago.
Lowndes County Animal Control is looking to press charges against the owner, as they believe this was an act of cruelty.
The dog was found a little over 72 hours ago, just behind the Arbor Trace apartments, in a crate-like cage.
Lowndes County Spokesperson Paige Dukes says the dog most likely died from the extremely hot temperatures.
"It's just too easy, with all the help that we have available here in our community, for you to ask for that help, instead of leaving your pet outside to die," said Dukes.
Neighbors are hoping for justice as well.
"It's really a bad idea to encage animals like that, I don't know who did that, only thing I can say is that I hope the authorities catch them and deal with them properly," said neighbor Keith Flucas.
The person found responsible for the death of the dog could face fines, felony charges and jail time.
