VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Accidents in Lowndes County totaled 83 before noon Wednesday as drivers took to roads made slippery by freezing temperatures.
The Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency says there's been 83 accidents since 1 a.m. Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, the agency asked people to continue to stay off roads, streets and bridges until transportation and law enforcement officials determine it is safe to travel.
Things are expected to get worse in regions with lots of ice, as roads will likely freeze overnight.
"We are expecting well below freezing temperatures overnight, and we have a lot of wet material on the road," said Paige Dukes, the agency's spokesperson. "We expect our roads to not be best for travel early in the morning, and we're asking people to delay their travels until things clear up."
