LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Lowndes County Emergency Management is on standby in case things take a turn for the worst with the severe weather entering South Georgia.
EMA director Ashley Tye, says Lowndes is not expecting to be hit hard by the storm, but officials are monitoring the storm activity and ready to enact all services to keep community members safe.
Tye says people should be sure to have access to methods that provide emergency updates.
"The main thing is to make sure people are aware of their surroundings and to keep an eye on the weather because sometimes these things can develop rapidly and kind of unexpectedly, so we want to make sure people don't get caught off guard," said Tye.
Tye suggests keeping a functioning NOAA weather radio or have access to code red, a system that provides emergency alerts through land-line telephones, if your address is detected in the path of a storm.
