LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WTXL) -- A Lowndes County Deputy was arrested on charges that he assaulted his girlfriend.
Sunday afternoon the victim's family called 911 to report the attack. Investigators say that Jonathan Barns and the victim were in a verbal dispute after Barns demanded to see the victim's cell phone.
When the victim refused to hand over the phone the fight turned physical, said deputies.
On Monday, a warrant was issued for Barnes charging him with battery, false imprisonment, and theft. He has since posted bond and is out of jail as of Tuesday.
After the investigation was completed, Sheriff Prine immediately terminated Barnes' employment. “This is an unfortunate situation, but we as law enforcement are held to a higher standard and this conduct will not be tolerated by any employee at the Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Prine.
