LOWNDES COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leading up to and on Halloween, deputies, detectives, and officers said that they kept a close eye on sex offenders to keep children and families safe throughout the spooky holiday.

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, with help from the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, has been visiting the homes of sex offenders for the past week in preparation for Halloween.

Detectives and officers also conducted searches for child pornography during their visits to sex offenders' homes.

“The Sheriff’s Office takes the verification and tracking of sex offenders very seriously. I am thankful for the help of the Department of Community Supervision officers who worked with our detectives and deputies to make this endeavor a success. This is a small effort on our part to assure the safety of our children and everyone in our community” said Sheriff Prine.

Combined for the week leading up to Halloween and the night of festivities itself, deputies, detectives, and officers were able to verify, in-person the locations of 344 sex offenders, issued four warrants for those not living at their registered address, and one warrant issued for possession of child pornography.

They also arrested four for violating their probation by participating in Halloween and issued three more warrants for probation violators.
