ST. AUGUSTINE (WALB) - A Lowndes High School senior died after going missing at St. Augustine Beach Sunday afternoon.

According to our partners at the Valdosta Daily Times, Jaylen Lott, 18, went missing while swimming at a beach in Florida, according to officials with St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Lott was later found and flown to Flagler Hospital in critical condition. Officials with the Lowndes County School System confirmed that Lott has passed away.

Chuck Mulligan, with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, said Lott and three other swimmers got stuck in the surf. Three of them managed to make it back to shore before the search for Lott began.

Helicopters, boats and jet skis were used in the search for the Lott, according to a witness.

Mulligan said CPR was used on Lott before he was flown to the hospital.

St. Augustine Beach Police Department is currently investigating the case.

Grief counselors were at LHS Monday if students needed them.

Jaylen played football for LHS. He was a receiver.
